In a recent TV interview, Professor Christine Fair, of Georgetown University, made the following unfair (I can’t resist the pun here) statement in response to another expert’s views, contrary to hers, on the question of US drone attacks in Pakistan and their linkage to the accentuation of radical responses to the United…

On Academic Writing

Mostly informed by my own practices, these are my current thoughts about academic writing specific to humanities. I believe that the way we write is connected very much to what we want to accomplish by our writing. There are few simple ways of looking at it:…

The Dark Side of a Religious National Identity for Pakistan

This reader, now also a friend, whom I have decided not to name here has encouraged me to reflect and express my views on the destructive aspects of a particularist national identity in case of Pakistan. Review: Time and the River

Published in 2007, Time and the River is by far the most intriguing and enlightening work by the Belizean author Zee Edgell, author of highly acclaimed novel Beka Lamb. In the literary circles of United States, the slave narrative is an established form of writing that is read and discussed in the academia as well as in the popular sphere. What makes Time and the River an amazing tour

is the complex thematic foci mobilized to enlighten…

Did you come across a different login for your account

Phishing scams are many and I've come across sign in phishing site. The site didn't look like the sign in site and I hope it gets reported as soon as possible! You usually get an email letting you know of changes and I didn't get one. The best way to deal with it is to go to tools-phishing-check-report. If it needs further reporting, and can help you. I have…

Finally giving it a go

I wanted to be a writer almost from my first memory. I was one of those intellectually precocious but socially inept nerdy kids, reading novels from the time I was 7 or 8. I came from an abusive household, and when I opened a book I could escape into it. To me it was a natural extension of this to be able to create an alternate reality of my own by writing stories and novels. Adults always thought it was so cute, when they asked me "what I wanted to be when I grew up" that I would answer… Continue

We chase myths in self-made Amazon

fish turtles that change colour in new waters

we create landscape of nightmares and wade through

anacondas that threaten our confidence

lost in the jungles of our own making

we beat about the thorny grasses now

look for the twin flames for convenience

cloud judgment and reality for control

challenge the Republic and divide

the defence that could never…
