Thanks Robin,
It is always wonderful to hear someone's kind words of encouragement and yes, they will have to get used to it.

P.S. Let me say this: You have decided to live in Italy -- so for the sake of yourself, your spouse & your child, especially.... YOU HAVE TO OWN YOUR PLACE! It's just as much yours as it is theirs, and people will stare at people who look different than they do or what they're generally used to seeing. Italians have seen Black people (especially Sicilians who're a "Black-Based" people!) before and they've seen tall women before.... and eventually, they'll get used to it...or not. But, they're not you're problem.

Ok, I didn't notice your other questions. For this, I am sorry. I married an Italiano and relocated to Italy. I have only lived here for a little over a year and because of my language deficiencies, I am a stay at home mom/wife. Prior to that I was a registered cardiac sonographer. For now, I am an aspiring author who at one time, did some freelance work for pajamas media. Do I fit in? Well, allow me to say that it is difficult being a redbone and also part of an interracial marriage in Italy because, I tend to stand out. In other words, people stare. However, it is nothing different from my reception in places outside of NY, being close to six feet tall. However, it's getting better. In the coming months, I plan to finally make myself a part of the community, whether I am accepted or not. There is one synagogue in the main of livorno, I plan to attend for worship services and there are loads of beaches and other things to see. I am going to turn the experience positive.
In the meantime, I have found a few sites like Helium, writebite, triond, associated content for entertainment and a little coffee money. I love the challenge of being able to write something and attract readers. I am also attempting to write, rewrite, tear up, start again and write my memoirs.

Hello there,
Everything is going fine. I have decided to possibly remain in Italy and settle permanently. I have been watching the decline of the economy and also realize that wherever I go, there really is no difference. So I am trying to figure it all out. Oh, and girl Missy and Msday are one and the same, Gen X is my network, stop by and comment.

Hi Missy:

I looked up Cane River LA., and found that it is in Natchitoches, LA; it was just recently "admitted" by Congress a short 14 years ago! Interesting. Going to read up more on it!

Where in NYC did you live? I live in The Bronx, in a very large community called Co-Op City which lies on the Northern side of I-95/New England Thruway. I spent my first 10 years in Manhattan, Washington Heights, and we lived on what is called "Sugar Hill", just over the bridge from Yankee Stadium.

Whatever made you decide to relocate to Italy!? Please tell me what it is that you do there...occupationally and otherwise? Are you married, single, child(ren)? I've always been interested to know about women of color who live in Europe or anyplace out of the Continental U.S., and how they all fare. It is so inspiring.

I just turned 56 last month, but I am one of those youthful, forever-in-blue-jeans kind of 56!

Take care.

How'd you know about the gumbo? Wow....I can't hide. Anyway, prior to moving to Italy, I resided in the wonderful state of rhode island but my home is in New York. My family is all over the place from Cane river lousiana, to East Texas to South Carolina but I claim the Louisiana side, as my pride and joy.
