I am in the process of writing a book that is due to be published at the end of this year or early next year.

The book is titled How to Use Equity in Your Home or Business Today to Invest for Tomorrow. I plan to include case studies of individuals and businesses that used equity in a property to make a purchase.

If you or someone you know has used the equity in a property to:

* Buy another property
* Start a new business
* Fund a retirement or investment account
* Pay for a college education
* Or some other investment

I'd love to hear your (or their) story.

Contact me for details or with any questions you may have.

I am new to the Sun Oasis group--and was wondering about the best way to get word out about my copywriting service. I specialize in web copy and email and auto responder copy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Julie

Fulfilling Your Writing Needs

I've been writing articles parttime because I worked alot of hours outside my home. Now my hours have been cut to near zilch and writing is going to be my main focus. I've made some money with the article writing and hope it will be enough to keep the wolves away from the door.

Do you have any suggestions on the following?

I wrote a book called Tibet: A Silenced Struggle. It’s an overview and critical analysis of Tibetan culture, crushed under Chinese rule, its plight largely ignored. I was first drawn to the topic through the Dalai Lama, and then by a fascination with Tibetan culture as well as a longtime interest in Buddhism. I am Jewish and a child of Holocaust survivors. In Tibet’s plight, I recognized some distinct parallels with my Jewish experience and that of my parents. I felt empathetic towards the Tibetans, and was greatly inspired by their resilience. I was also especially intrigued by the philosophical questions raised by their struggle and by the world’s reaction to it, and felt compelled to spread awareness of their cause.

Initially it was my master’s report but after graduating, I decided to revise it for publication. So I worked on it for several years until I completed a first draft in 2003. I was extremely passionate about the subject and dedicated all the time I could find (after work hours, weekends, vacation time) to the research and writing it required. The process was often challenging but extremely rewarding. My research was based on books, newspaper and academic articles, documentaries and online resources, and I also conducted in-person and telephone interviews with experts in the field. Although the book includes many footnotes and academic sources, it was meant to be accessible to the mainstream. For each chapter, I received help from experts all over the world who kindly donated their time and expertise with their valuable feedback. I received positive responses from them. Their dedication and passion for the subject further ignited mine and kept me going for five years.

Throughout the writing of my manuscript I contacted several publishing companies but they were not interested in publishing anything political regarding Tibet. So I decided to focus instead on completing my manuscript. Upon completion, I submitted it to a publishing company in New Mexico called Clear Light Books, who had expressed an interest. However, I wasn’t hearing back from them and I had to leave the United States because my work permit was going to expire. In the meantime, however, an authority on the subject became very interested in my book and promised to see to its publication. To this end, I revised and updated the manuscript at least twice as time went by and Tibet’s story continued to evolve. My manuscript finally went to the hands of the editors and I was already thinking quite excitedly about the cover when my contact had a misunderstanding with the editors and consequently my book fell through.

At the time, I was devastated and felt paralyzed to move in any other direction with it. I also became very distracted with my personal life which needed my attention on several fronts. Since then, however, over two years have gone by and I am still deeply saddened and troubled by the outcome. I have waited anxiously for a renewed passion to inspire me again so that I can pick up where I left off. But I can’t imagine updating it a third time as a sole exercise in research and writing. And the more time goes by, the more difficult it becomes. I can hardly approach the topic without reliving the failed result of a manuscript that almost went to print after such a long wait and didn’t make it, nor can I easily write about other topics without thinking about this.

So I would very much like to release it to the world. It was, after all, written for that purpose. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? Should I try an e-book? Any other ideas? I would be very grateful. With best wishes,

Hi Annette,

It's a very intriguing tale and you shouldn't give up. What I would do is work on a book proposal and a query letter to send to both agents and editors. An agent will give you access to larger publishing houses. There are lots of resources about proposal writing and writing query letters. Put those phrases in Google and see what comes up.

Publishers are especially interested in the "plaform" you'll have for the book. Are any of the experts willing to help you get a platform? Do you have a blog or webpage for the book or subject matter?

Self-publishing with POD or even Kindle e-books is an option but the hard work in all of this is the marketing of the book to make sure it gets into the hands of all who would be interested in reading it.

Don't let one or two misteps or rejections block you. Remember that it is rare that a book "sells itself." You, the author have to sell the book and you'll learn how to do that if you create a proposal and query for it.

Good luck,
