If anyone is thinking of signing up with examiner.com, I will be glad to share what I have learned. Once you sign up, you are stuck with that category.
Maybe we should set up a support group here for other writers who want to learn how to be an effective examiner writer. It has changed quite a bit since I first signed on in mid January and I think is more of a tabloid now. What do you think?
You're right. It seems to be becoming a tabloid. But if you read one of my reviews, you'll see that I can't write that way. (I think I've made 20¢ so far.) Yes, let's form a support group, but since I've been on the job less than a month, I don't know how much help I can be to anyone.
I am making about $10 a day but it takes some creativity.
Use a movie that is showing in your city. Do an article about a particular actor/actress that appears in it. Relate to the movie but only as it relates to the star(s). Load a picture of that star or stars.
Set up a file with a printout of that person. Next time that star appears in a movie in your town, write another article him/her. Show a link that to the previous article.
Take a look at the articles I have done about Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin.
It took me almost two months of experimentation to learn enough to start making money from examiner.com
If you want to go to "chat", tell me when Tucson time and I will be glad to talk to you.
I have always wanted to be an Examiner but I do not know if they accept writers from Asia. I am from the Philippines but has been working as sub editor then news editor here in Thailand for the last 11 months. I am very familiar with newspaper and magazine writing and loves to write about politics, environment and sports. Would appreciate any help from you Martha or William. Thanks.
Update on Examiner. Earnings for me have dropped below between 50% and 75% of what was earned in the earlier months. Most of the articles are about trivia now. So forget what I originally wrote about Examiner opportunities.
I'd love to know moe about it. The web site doesn't really tell much about accountability or how examines ae chosen.
You say you are stuck with a categoy, but what if you relocate? Is there a way to switch locations?
I can say that I have a great editor-manager at examiner.com
You have to find the right format that works for your subject area. I have tried a few and the latest one seems to increase my earnings.
Read some of the articles for getting a feel of what is being published. The only way you can know if a specific location is open, you can register for it and find out that way.
I like my assignment:. Featured National Watchdog Politics Examiner but I also write for Suite 101 in which you can write about any topic but if you want to be a featured writer, you have a minimum that must be written in that specific topic. Right now mine is Magazine Publishing, it was Newspaper Publishing but that is a dying industry and not much to write about now.
I don't know about writing for a specific location--city.
I write for six different sites on the Internet, some every day and others once a week or occassionally.
Writing for examiner.com is like any other freelancing today--the earnings don't even come close to what print freelancing used to pay.
Hi Martha
Thanks for your post.
I have been creating educational products for some leading educational consultancies in India since 2006.
The opportunity at examiner.com seems interesting.
I will appreciate any guidelines that you could give me before signing up with them.
Thank you for your help.
Regards.
